Rome in March [light? film choice?]

Hi all,

I'm off to Rome in March. Anyone know how I can expect the light to be? Bright? Over-cast?

I'm taking a couple of film cameras [probably a little rangefinder and a compact] and thought about shooting some slide film, some colour film and some black and white.

Any recommendations?

Well, my tealeaves failed me again – but I believe that you can expect nice weather and high contrast scenes as well as grey skies and rain.

My only March visit to Rome was on the gray side, but it was only about four days and we had sun earlier in the trip in Venice and Verona, so I have no feel for the overall probabilities. I suspect early spring weather may be a little more unsettled than the summer season. I still got plenty of shots to remember it by.

I was in Rome in mid March and enjoyed misty early mornings followed by beautiful bright clear skies for the morning topped off with Prosecco and Pizza outdoors in the afternoon .. a perfect combination.

To my mind there's not a lot about the city that isn't photogenic, bring lots of film and enjoy!

to check what will be the atmosferic conditions in Rome dayly and weekly) and have the right films, shoes, suits.....you will need a quick translator and some good will.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I can expect 'mixed' conditions. I suppose living in the UK I should be used to that.

I think I've decided on a mix of films -- 100 - 400 colour [slide and print] and 400 b&w. Just the usual general combination. Ta.
