Does anyone know if the original 1.35v 625 mercury batteries were of slightly different dimensions than the current 1.55v alkaline 625?

The reason I ask is that I cannot get the battery cover to screw on my newly acquired Rolleiflex SL35 (Made in Germany version) with an alkaline 625 battery inside. It seems like that battery is too ‘thick’. I thought the problem might be that I was sold the camera with a battery cover that wasn’t original to the camera, so I bought an original cover from Germany, and it looks exactly the same and I have the same problem. I then bought an MR-9 adapter. No luck, same issue. I can’t figure this out, I’m stumped.

There must be something wrong with your camera, my SL35 fits equally well old mercury 625, russian mercury equivalents and modern epx625g alkaline, they all measure 5.85-5.90 mm thick.
