Hello all,

I'll be passing through London on the 5th of September, and was thinking of where I could have my 'problem child' Rolleiflex 2.8A repaired.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, sensible place IN LONDON who could do the job within a month?

Thanks for any advice!

Hello
I had my Rollei repaired and serviced about eight years ago by Sendean in the West End. Has worked splendidly ever since. http://sendeancameras.co.uk They are in a little alleyway in Soho, and can give you a next day free estimate according to their website.
All the best
Mike

I used to send some of the repairs of the company I worked for to Sandean Cameras, they are a very good company.

Am in London now, and have given the 2.8A in to Sendean. So far, I'm pretty impressed by the level of courtesy I received, and they make a generally competent impression. Quoted me around £100 for servicing the camera, which doesn't seem that unreasonable. We'll see when I get it back.

Update: Got my 2.8A back, and it's back from the dead!!

Apparently their 'top technician' said it was a write-off, but after some discussion Dimitri (the owner?) took it upon himself to have a tinker himself. The shutter's working fine except that two speeds are prone to jamming (1 sec and 1/5 sec) -- which I can live with. He mentioned that the complete set of Rolleinar 1 lenses with perspective correction that I have for this camera is apparently worth a zillion dollars. So there.

I have written 'writeoff my ass' on the back of the camera, and 'beaterflex' on the side. It's never going to be pretty, but that was never the point.

I haven't developed anything out of the camera yet, but it feels OK so far; the Rodinal will tell...
