Looking at some negs I developed from a Rolleiflex I`m planning to buy, I had quite a lot of flare, and I took a closer look at it`s taking lens(this is a 1956 3.5E btw) It looked kind of hazy, but when I unscreved the front element and checked it with a loupe, the was spider web galore, seems like it`s on the backside of the front element or on the next glass element...

Anyone know if this is a difficult/expensive cleaning job?

I recently experienced this problem with the Xenotar in my 1975 White Face 3.5F--same thing, spiderweb on the back of the front element. Krikor at Krimar Photo (www.krimarphoto.com), 201-796-0554, said that he could improve things but couldn't guarantee perfection, but after he worked on it, it looks as good as new and performs beautifully. You might want to give him a call and get his advice.

Thanks, I`ll give him a call if I can`t find anyone here in Norway that can do jobs like this.

Hi Amund,

you may as well call Franke&Heidecke in Brauschweig/Germany. They may be able to swap the front element. May be they redirect you to Paepke in Düsseldorf. They are the official address for maintenance of old Rolleis in Germany in the first place.

cheers

Ulrich

Thanks Ulrich.

Luckily, there is an old Rolleiflex guru here in Oslo, wich I just talked to, and cleaning the lens was no problem.
