Selling my very nice condition 3.5F Planar, with leather case, satin finish lens caps, and lens shade.

This is an early Type 1 (K.4D) version, serial number 22090xx, produced between 1958 - 1960. Type 1 models have the interlocking aperture/shutter speed controls, overridden by the chrome latch button partially surrounding the aperture wheel. As a longtime user of Hasselblad/Zeiss lenses, with their similarly linked EV-type system, I never had any problems with this and in fact I find the implementation here in the Rollei better, since the release button is actually much quicker and easier to use.

All of the controls and indicators are functioning perfectly, including the depth of field indicator, the linking of the meter needle to the exposure controls, etc. The meter is functioning (although I never relied on it). The clear window of the meter is not scratched or cracked.

As the photos show, it's in very clean condition. The covering is in great shape with only very few flaking specks. The lenses are beautifully clear and free of scratches, fungus, etc. There is one tiny spot toward the edge on the taking lens (see picture) that might be in the coating but it is very minor. All the speeds sound good.

The one primary cosmetic issue is the dent in the front of the viewfinder hood. It forms a slight "v" indention, almost right in the very middle of the area… almost looks like it was designed that way! I suppose it's a testament to the high quality of the Rollei's paint finish that there is no cracking or wrinkling of the paint at all. This was present when I purchased the camera a few years ago and in fact it took me a couple minutes handling the camera before I even noticed it. When the hood is opened this indented area mostly disappears.

The focus screen is in good shape but there is one little mark that someone left in the underside (see photo). It's not too noticeable in use. And a previous owner was a bit overenthusiastic about wiping the top surface of the screen so there are some swirl marks. They are not severe enough to interfere with the viewing, however.

The case is in nice condition with some of the usual marks to be found, mostly on the front cover. The lens shade is very nice, with just a trace of paint loss. The satin finish lens caps are perfect.

$775 shipped to CONUS. For buyers outside the US please check first to get a quote for shipping (tracking and insurance required). Of course, let me know if you have any questions.

Does it feature EV-coupled exposure control? so the rotation of one of the exposure control wheels alters shutter speed and aperture in tandem so as to retain the EV setting.

William, the Type 1 models do indeed have the coupled system. Not everyone prefers the linked controls but, as I mentioned above, it hasn't bothered me at all. The recommended technique is to first set the shutter speed, then press the lock button with your left thumb while simultaneously rotating the aperture wheel to set the desired value. Release the lock button. Now, rotating the wheel (I always used the speed wheel) turns the values in opposing directions, i.e., maintaining the same exposure value.

Hi Martin, can you please comment on your experience using the camera (like shutter and exposure accuracy)? And malfunctions or frame spacing issues?
How long have you had it and do you know when the last service might have been?

Paul, I've had the camera for about 6 years. It's not been serviced during that time. There is a service sticker inside the camera dated 1978 but I don't know if there actually was any other service performed after that time. I acquired it via ebay, I believe from the late owner's wife who I'm sure would not have known such details.
I haven't used it much in the last year or two but I've never seen any issues with the frame spacing. I just had a look at some negs that I know were made with this camera and the spacing looks good, perhaps a minor variation between frames but no significant amount. And I'm not recalling any exposure problems. The speeds sound good to me. If no one claims the camera before I get a chance, probably tomorrow (Saturday) I'll take it out with film and make sure I go through the full range of speeds, develop the film, and have a look. Then we'll know for sure.

It's a neat camera and much nicer than my Type 2, by all appearances. It would be a good upgrade. I have occasionally noticed winding/activation issues with mine, but otherwise it functions very well. I like the EV coupling that the Type 1 has.
You mention a lens blemish, which photo shows that best?

Have a look at Photo #12, the closeup of the lens. At about the 8 o'clock position there's a little spot that's lighter. It might just be a spot that'll come off and not actually any damage to the coating. I'm embarrassed to say that at the moment I am completely out of lens cleaning tissues and I certainly don't want to mess with it too much! Perhaps I can remedy that situation tomorrow as well.
