I recently acquired a Rolleiflex 2.8 GX Expression and have been thoroughly enjoying its features. However, I've noticed a distinct "ping noise" when I press the shutter. I'm not entirely sure if this is a normal characteristic of the camera or if there might be an issue with mine.
I'm reaching out to fellow Rolleiflex 2.8 GX owners to inquire if you've encountered a similar sound with your camera. Could you please share your experiences? I'm curious to know if this is a common occurrence or if it might be something I should have checked out.
Thanks in advance for any insights or advice you can provide!
I don't have a GX myself, but I have read many times that they have a "twang" sound when you release the shutter. The sound comes most probably from a vibrating spring, either the main spring in the shutter or a spring in the mechanism that releases the winding crank. Some of my Rolleiflexes have this "ping", but it's much quieter on the older models.
Might be related to the use of different shutters used in the GX. The first ones were more stiff and perhaps had the twinging. A bit hard to handhold at low speeds. Then they changed, either once or twice to go to softer shutters.
