Hello,
yesterday I got my first medium format camera in the mail, a Rolleicord V. This morning I developed the film (first roll ever). Alas something is wrong with the advancement of the camera.

There was only 7 exposures on the film, well 7.5 really. So i put a new film in today and noticed that I could hear the sound of the film ending between frame 9 and 10.

This is what the first negative looked like :

Any idea what the problem could be? User error? Faulty camera? Is there an easy fix?

#1: Is there any chance that the take-up spool is too large in diameter? Unlikely, I know.

Idea #2: [Based on my admittedly amateur knowledge] The film advance system depends on a spring-loaded roller, running on the take-up film's paper. If this roller was slipping, it could cause your problem [the advance mechanism recognizes sufficient film advance based on the number of turns of this roller]. I suggest cleaning the roller [carefully] with acetone on a cotton swab, in case it has an oil film on it. Next: lightly abrade it with very fine sandpaper to roughen the roller's surface. I have Rolleicord Vb, and have little else to offer. Once it's working - great camera. I love mine. Good luck.

Here's the instructions manual: http://www.butkus.org/chinon/rollei/rolleicord_v/rolleicord_v.htm

If you loaded the film correctly, I suspect that the film advance/counter mechanisms need to be cleaned from old dried lubricant and/or dirt. If that's the case, let an experienced repair man do it.

The Rolleicord V is a very nice camera, and the Xenar is an excellent lens.

Larry's option #2 is likely the cause. But (no offense, Larry) don't do what he suggests. Rather, follow JPDs suggestion... and you will be justly rewarded.
