Ok, I have never used a Rolleicord ... so I have a Rolleicord III (I think it is a III) and I am fixing it up ... one thing I have noticed is the action of the shutter cocking/release lever, it does not appear to be spring loaded ... so is it supposed to swing loosely after cocking the shutter ?
I looked behind the shutter and do not see any lost mechanisms to pull the arm/ring back to centre. I have looked at images online and do not see anything that has answered my question ... is this correct ?

I’ve got a IIb or thereabouts. Holding the camera so the lenses are facing me, I move the cocking lever to the left to cock the shutter — I can hear a spring making noise as it is stretched until the shutter cocks, then I can move the lever back to the right, to the bottom of the arc, to where moving it further to the right would release the shutter. I have to move the lever back to the center, there is no spring to pull it back to center. The lever, however, is not swinging loosely after the shutter is cocked; there’s a bit of friction in the mechanism such that the lever must be moved by the hand. It won’t move left or right on its own.

Ah, Ok ... that's what I meant, not that is easily swings about ... so it is by design to be moved back by human effort.

Thanks.
I've got a Rolleicord III (Type 2) that does the same. The body is near-mint, so I suspect this is by design. A Rolleicord V though, is still spring-tensioned after cocking the shutter.
