Hi,

I haven't used my Rollei 6008I in about a year and after I recharged it I get a split second message in the viewfinder indicating I have a full charge then I get a viewfinder message that looks like a sideways L. The result is that the film will not advance. When I press the shutter-- nothing. I cannot find my manual and do not recall ever seeing that viewfinder message before. If anybody give me some feedback on this problem and/or remind me where I misplaced my manual it would be much appreciated.
My email: daxelb@aol.com
Thanks in advance,
David

Hmm. Find someone near you with a Maha charger and a Rollei. The Maha charger may be able to recondition your battery (a year is too long between charges) and you can test your 6008I with their battery. I'd also do the obvious things: clean all lens & body contacts, film magazine contacts, make sure the draw slide is full open, etc.

Hi Tim,
Do you have any idea what that backwards L in the viewfinder means? Come to think of it, it has been less than a year--probably seven months or so. I will try your suggestions.
Thanks

I'm wondering if it is a part "C" - the charge indicator, but not fully displaying, or it could be attempting to display "L" for Load, but I can't remember if the earlier 6008's displayed that. Remember that if the pin/sensor for the prism is either pushed or stuck, the display automatically reverses, so that would account for the "backwards" display. (I've moved to 6008AF and sold the manual along with my older camera.) Mr. Maralian at Krimar has been very good to my 6000 series lenses, and may not be far from you in NJ: http://www.krimarphoto.com , but I'm betting it is a battery/contact issue.

Thanks Tim,
I don't think I described the viewfinder message well: it looks like: --L-- except the L is turned 90 degrees to the right like a table with one leg.
If anybody out there recognizes that message please let me know. Recommendation on method for battery contact cleaning before i call Mr. Maralian?
Thanks.

Sorry to say that I don't know what your display is trying to tell you. I use a cotton swab barely damp in 90% isopropyl alcohol, then buff with a soft cloth to clean contacts.

Tim-- I don't know if your interested but just to update...
The problem, now fixed, was that the metering mode knob which is behind and somewhat hidden by the exposure compensation knob was turned to a setting--R-- (maybe for reset) that gave off that message and froze the camera. When I turned the knob to one of the three standard exposure choices the camera worked. Weird how I unknowingly moved the knob and how much it threw me. Thanks again for your thoughts and that address.
