Hey Forum-

Newbie to camera repair with a question about my lil Rollei.

I don't have the technical words for these components (bear with me), but they're essentially levers directly behind the lends that control the shutter.

For some reason, the two small levers on the left don't reset after releasing the shutter (which is directly connected to the lever on the right).

I can reset them with a small screwdriver (they'll click into place, at which point I can collapse the lens), but once released, they stay in the (incorrect) position (in the attached pic, with the markup in RED).

Any thoughts/direction on how to resolve this? The shutter advance is meanwhile stuck in place, so something's (obviously) related. The additional pic shows the correct placement of the levers (again, apologies for not having the correct terminology).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks again-

Thanks very much for that. Out of curiosity, can you tell me what's happening to the linkages and shutter?

Normal wear and lubricant deterioration. In standard shutters the release does not fully return to its home position due to the blade controller not fully returning to its home (start) position or one of the many levers involved in the cocking and release mechanisms not fully returning to their home positions. As shutters are used micro fine particles of metal build up in the pivots from normal usage and wear. The pivots either run dry or have a trace of oil on them which eventually dries out and the springs can no longer push the levers back into position as they do not move as freely as they should.
When a shutter is run once its slowed down or become hard to operate then additional wear occurs and springs weaken. Bent levers only occur when the mechanism becomes hard to operate and force is used to make it operate such as forcing the shutter release button.

Download the repair manual and study the diagrams for 000 shutters to get an idea of whats involved. Your camera has pins and levers that come through or attach to the back of the shutter case to cock and trip the shutter where standard shutter has the levers on the outside edge of the shutter case.

In Rollei 35 you must wind before you can collapse the lens.

The fact you can’t wind needs to get solved first. I saw a repair doc on Facebook today. If you’re there, it’s “The Vintage Camera Repair” group.

Beware......the Rollei 35is very complicated inside. If you Doubt your ability to succeed, don’t begin. (Baggies are made for people who don’t get this basic principle of camera repair).

I have a Rollei 35S with a similar problem -- the pin that activates the shutter pin disengages from the blade pinion when the lens is focused closer than 4 feet. Closer than that and the camera fires but the shutter doesn't open. I've attached two photos which depict the problem. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix it? Otherwise, do you know of a good place to send for a CLA? I'm in NYC, hoping to send somewhere in the States. Have heard good things about Harry Fleenor.

Thanks and happy new year!
