The film advance lever on a recently purchased Rollei 35 seems to have broken the second I put film in the camera for the first time, although it worked ok before film was put in. My guess is that the gear was on its very last leg. Here is a video I took showing how the lever can still be advanced if you return it partially into position then continue advancing, but that if you reset it all the way back, it will seem to grind against the stripped gear until you get it into just the right spot:
You can hear the stripped gear sound at 38 seconds.
My question is whether or not it is okay to just use the camera in its current state. I don't know anything about cameras and would be a bit afraid to try to fix it on my own, although I saw what looks like a decent fix online involving making a mold of the gear. I contaced one camera repair place but they are charging almost as much as I paid for the camera (over $300).
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!
