G'day,
I was hoping to form a loose group called the "Leaf Shutters" by email. We could have a subject and shoot and then pass our prints around by post. Also if traveling we could meet and socialize on the way through. Also for advice and maybe buying power from overseas. I was hoping to have people from all states. I have thought about it since the meet in Sydney which I wanted, yet couldn't attend. I would enjoy the visit now and again from a passing fellow large format shooter and would like the same when traveling. I guess I want to get away a little more from the digital "E" world. There would be nothing formal, just for the large format people to know each other. If you are interested send me a PM.

Also the prints only had to be contact prints and you view and then pass on. Don't you like to be able to say contact print and know most people could see the print without a magnifier.

I should have added that I use a Tachihara 8x10 which is currently in pieces.

I think 4 x 5 up Ian, I'm just working on building a 16 x 20 camera. I'm getting a friend with a lathe to give me a hand. Will send email to all later

Hi Pat,
I like the idea of a 16x20 camera. Sounds like fun.
I'm currently working on a design for 4x5, 8x10 and 11x14 cameras to be made out of carbon fibre. I'm also thinking about making film holders in those sizes out of carbon fibre. Who know, there might even be a market for them in Oz.

I'm looking to use parts from an SCX I have and enlarging the rear standard. I would then fix this to the monorail and then focus with the front standard. I only have to duplicate the profile to enlarge it. I would then lengthen the arms for the shifts. I would then have rise fall and shifts on both front and rear. I just have to work out the back and ground glass holder. I also could look at timber, Have some Australian red cedar which would do the trick. However, timber can only be tightened so far. I will look into the bellows as well. I may get a leather set made, or glue my fingers together making a cloth card set.

I like the idea of this.

Have not had the chance to get out with my little 4x5's (made myself) for a while now. I have had too many excuses present themselves, and now I have a full plate which is a real restorer that will need a lot of time spent on it. All the more reason for what you're suggesting Pat as I will have to get it up and shooting.

Andrew, I went out with Gary (Poisson du Jour) and Shane (SM Booth), who are both members here, to Yannathan Falls in the Otways about a month back. I had the camera in the backpack and put it down on what I thought was a fairly flat rock which was covered in slime. Unfortunately the slime was very slippery (doh) and the bag fell about 30 cms, but on an angle. The shaft for the front focus broke inside the base with the locking knob on the left side still attached. I was going to get a new part from Japan, but after speaking to my partner's brother (he teaches metal work at Canberra Institute of TAFE) I decided to pull the thing apart and give him the shaft and the locking knob. He is going to insert a smaller square shaft into the boken bits and rejoin them, and then I should be good to go. I have an awful lot of tiny little screws to put back though.
Hopefully I'll get it right and I'll be able to use it when I go to Alice Springs in December.

Finally found you after some looking. Tentatively I'll be in it, although I work 5x4 exclusively in color and don't have facilities for making contact prints.
