Looking for either 6x12 or 6x17 panoramic camera, with at least one lens. Ability to shift is welcome, but not necessary.

I'm located in the EU and will only buy from this area, as customs fees will be prohibitive otherwise.

Cheers

Not that I have a camera to sell but if you can accept a slow working process you might want to have a look at panoramic backs for 4x5 cameras.
Pros - a lot cheaper, more lenses and all the movements of the 4x5
Cons - slower to work with, a lot more gear to carry

Have you considered the swing lens 120 film version of the WideLux?

I assume that money is a limitation, but part of your options depend also on what you are going to do with the negatives. Do you plan on enlarging them? If so, you need an enlarger and lenses. And with the cost limit, 6x17 is very pricey -- both for cameras and enlargers.

If you are crazy about the 6x17 format, you can make a "6x17" print from a 6x12 image -- on a 4x5 enlarger. Just crop it to 4.25x12. It's the same ratio, just a slightly smaller negative. Tell everyone it's a 6x17. How would they know otherwise?

Thanks for all the replies. Panoramic backs for 4x5 are indeed an interesting option, though lugging 4x5 camera when I just want to shoot some panoramas on roll film sounds like an overkill. Also a panoramic camera can be used hand-held (or so I was told).

Swing lens panoramic is an interesting option. I heard a lot of praise for Noblex cameras, but those don't look cheap.

As for what I plan to use with developed rolls - I would like to shoot on transparencies, then scan them. And occasionally look at them on a lightbox.

Chroma camera came out with 612. If you can 3D print check Kraken camera 612. For a 617 look for Fuji G617 or Malefic camera 3D printed. Chroma camera's Steve can make anything as per your requirement and he is based in UK.

I had a Fuji G617 in the past. I don't think I would want to hand hold a 617.
I have also looked at Alvandi 617 cameras in the past. I dont know enough about them. DAYI 617 is in the same mold as Malefic camera however more sturdy.

Also a panoramic camera can be used hand-held (or so I was told).

Swing lens panoramic is an interesting option. I heard a lot of praise for Noblex cameras, but those don't look cheap.
Yes, Noblex 6/150 can be used hand held, but it is not particularly small or lightweight.

Have you considered a simpler camera such as a Kraken?

I have experience with Noblex (135, 150, and the 175 models) and 35 mm Widelux. And I recently got a G617. So far, I find all to be reasonable to handhold.

I think I will like the Fuji, but the unique aspects of the rotating lens Noblexes are likely to continue to be my favorites. I would recommend the 6x12 Noblex 150UX with the “long time” module to start. I would think they would be fairly plentiful in the EU. Cheaper options would be the Da-yi, kraken etc.

I sent you a message, 6x12 negatives are a joy.

Horseman SW617, Fuji GX617 or Linhof Technorama 617 are the closest to what I would love to have, but these are really rare and/or outside my budget. I can buy the Linhof new, but total cost of a camera + lens combo is eye watering.

I might give Noblex a shot. There are some options in my area. Not super cheap, but not too bad. Thanks for all the replies.

If you plan to use the camera hand held I wouldn't recommend Noblex. I've tried that but settled very quickly for tripod use only. Good camera though there are some things to remember. Filters are expensive and it takes some time between pressing the shutter release and taking the image since the lens needs to accelerate (fast moving subject is basically out). Remember also that swing lens cameras are a breed of their own and it is important to level them.

Basically Noblex, Widelux and Horizon would benefit from tripod, otherwise you may get distorted results. I had a Widelux and wasn't happy about result hand held.
