Rodinal VS Classic F09

hi all,

I'm a french user of rodinal but in a few time I'll finish my bottle, the last one. I'll be happy to known if someone here have use the Classic F09 from fotoimpex, it's seem to be a clone of rodinal. My favorite film is fp4 125.

F09 and R09 are versions of the original Rodinal formula and are very similar to the current commercial product sold under the Agfa label. You can use development times interchangeably to determine starting points.

but aren't dilution different?
Rodinal 1+25 is similar to 1+40 calbe?
or is it Rod 1+50 ~ R09 1+40?

Wrong. You may be "digitaltruth" but your statements--- while not uncommon among the Internet lore--- are hardly born of truth. The development times and use are NOT interchangeable. The are differences between R09 and Rodinal just as there are differences among MQ and PQ developers. Not only are the dilution and published times different--- as they must be--- in high dilutions as popular for Rodinal, for instance, they won't work. R09 is a fine developer but its not what we've come to call "Agfa Rodinal" as produced last year. I like Calbe but use the "Agfa" product as my standard p-aminophenol developer--- packaging and consistency are also a league above much on the market.

Hallo Jerome, check this (there was a url link here which no longer exists) post. It seams that Agfa Rodinal is back on market. Silverprint in UK also offers Rodinal from a new batch.

I don`t use either developer, but was told by a supplier that they are similar, except that the Agfa brew is a little more concentrated. R-09 1+20 is approximately equivalent to Rodinal 1+25 and R-09 1+40 is similar to Rodinal 1+50 if that`s any help.

That is correct, the "normal" dilutions are different, Rodinal 1+50 and R09 1+40.

It is one thing to point out mistakes and quite another to call one a liar. I'm sure that is not the connotation you had in mind, but that is what came across. Your corrections of misapprehensions would have been just as valuable without that statement.

Be aware that Rodinal is now available again on limited distribution. I don't know where/if it is available in France but it is available in Germany and Britain so if you can't find it in France, Germany would probably be your best bet.

Ne perd pas ton temps avec le R09 de chez Adox ou Calbe.

Je l'ai testé contrairement a ce qui est parfois écrit, ils n'apas grand chose de commun avec le Rodinal.

thanks for all, I known that is possible to find rodinal in France but the price is more expensive now (price is the double). Also the classic f09 have "the same spirit" of rodinal because of his low price and old formulary. If there's only the dilution to change it's ok but some of you who have make test seem to be bad with classic...

R09 also seems to be less concentrated when you compare it to Rodinal. Solution is thinner.

One has to be careful to point out that adding ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to R09 or Rodinal will destroy any developer activity. It is the added acidity that causes the problem. What must be added is sodium ascorbate or sodium isoascorbate.

I'm kinda spoiled by having access to sodium erythorbate.

But it also works to add vitamin C/erythorbic acid and neutralize it with carbonate before adding the developer agent.

When Gainer first mentioned this addition there were several people who didn't understand and wound up with blank film. I didn't want that to happen again. BTW, I get my erythorbate from http://www.suttonsbayspices.com/Sausage_Supplies/21772.html they have the best price I have found $6.33 per lb.
