Hi,

I've just picked up a bottle of Rodinal Special / Studional.

The dev times seem ridiculously short, e.g. 3.5 mins for Tri-X.

It seems the consensus is that it can be diluted 1+30 with a 50% increase in dev time (although I have also read a 100% increase is required).

Can anyone guide me?

I've only used it a few times, but I went with approximately a 100% increase when doubling the dilution to 1+30 [actually 100% minus 20 seconds or so]. With Neopan 400 that worked out really well, and the negatives were excellent -- not too thin, not too thick, and with good contrast and fine grain. On the other hand, I tried it with some APX100 [the new stuff] and they were a little contrasty and grainy, so I'd maybe go with a slightly shorter time with that next-time.

I've always used it @ the recommended 1:15 ratio, but for (trying to remember from the last time I used it) 6min or so. With LF APX400 it was beautiful. MF APX400/100, Tri-X came out so smooth when I shot it on Maui and processed in Studional. There's a group for it on Flickr, I think. Maybe that can help out too. Also, nice fine grain with just about the perfect acutance. Good luck with your results.

Thanks for the replies.
I eventually went for the 1+15 receipe and used the times on the bottle.
Developed 2 rolls of tmax p3200, and then used the same batch to develop 2 rolls of tri-X, negatives and contact prints look good.

The 1:15 times are very short so I have always used it at 1:30 with double the time as a starting point. This developer is one of my favourites.
