Rodinal is 125 years today 25/01/2016

The inventor Momme Andresen was employed at Agfa as dye chemist. There he introduced photographic products and later made Agfa install an own department for photographic products.
A department that by time would dominate the company and made it go on until today.

Happy Birthday Rod.

If there were any left I'd bet a bottle of that first batch would still be good.

Concerning it still being in production fellow member Ian Grant has posted about the slight changes it has undergone over time.

If there were any left I'd bet a bottle of that first batch would still be good.

If we then also could find some unprocessed negatives by Andresen...
Bad enough nothing is known about his photography aside of his job.

Funny it doesn't look a day over 100.

Quoted from Wall, The solution sold as Rodinal is said to be compounded ....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only formula that can definitely be accredited to Agfa is the formula confiscated by the Americans from the Agfa Wolfen plant after WWII as war reparations.

Distilled water ………………………………………………………………… 340 l
Paraminophenol …………………………………………………………………… 34 kg
Potassium sulfite, 30% w/w at 55°C ……………… 558 kg
Potassium hydroxide, 34% w/w………………………………… 50 kg
Potassium bromide* ………………………………………………………… 5.52 kg
Agfa P.1347 antifoggant …………………………………………… 42 g

No one seems to know what the chemical name was for the antifoggant was.

I have a bottle from the first run. It's like thick black tar. Still works great.
