So I bought this lens (in barrel) for cheap a few years ago, thinking I might use it for enlarging 8X10. Didn't have an enlarger then, but do now :D .

What issues might there be in using this lens for enlarging? I realize that this is not an enlarging lens but since I am not enlarging to wall-size murals (probably no more than 20X24), will I get reasonable results?

The easy answer is "try it!", but I don't want to butcher a lensboard only to find out I am unhappy with the result....

Any advice greatfully accepted.

J.

In a case like that I would cut a lensboard from some stiff corrugated and try. If the preliminary results look good then you might spring for a 'real' lensboard. You should get decent results with any decent quality lens as long as it has the coverage.

The lens is made for 10x enlargements, so I assume you could actually make some decent murals.

Interesting - I only know of Sironars as taking lenses. Where could I find out more about this one, especially re: enlarging? A Google search didn't turn up any info that I could find.

Thanks!

Hi Jaan,

As far as I know the Sironars are all taking lenses. These lenses, except the macro versions (as far as I know) are intended for 1:10 image size to infinity for best performance.
