I need to disassemble a Rodenstock Omegaron 75mm enlarger lens for cleaning. I was able to get the first ring off of the front, the one with the name on it, but the ring behind it seems to be frozen. Any suggestions?
Also, I am unable to find a way to unscrew the back ring as it has no grooves to use a tool on. The ring is smooth.
I have used heat to free up lens rings. How hot? Well, hot enough to get some expansion. The last few I heated up with a hair-blow dryer on high. Some lens rings I have encountered are sealed with two drops of something soluble in acetone. (The black edge on some lens elements I have found to also be soluble in acetone also, to be warned.)
Problem solved! I used my Dremel tool to cut the missing notches. I covered the entire thing in masking tape first to protect it from the dust that is produced from a grinding wheel. Worked like a charm!
As for the front ring, it just took a long time and a lot of attempts to unscrew it. Push on notch, spin it, push on the notch, spin it, rinse and repeat.
