The late multicoated Apo-Ronars screw directly into standard shutters. Earlier ones do not: the cells have a different thread. I don't have a definite date for the switch, i.e. I don't know if all multicoated Apo-Ronars will fit directly into a shutter and I don't know if all single-coated ones won't. You need to look and see.
Lenses as old as mine (late 60's, single coated) can only be mounted in a shutter if you get a machinist like S.K.Grimes to make adapter rings. The rings need to match the threads on the shutter and lens cells, and ensure that the spacing of the cells is correctly maintained. The lens cells are too large to fit into the throat of a No.1 shutter, but will squeeze into a (rare, and only available used) No.2. If you want a modern shutter, a No.3 is necessary.
