Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington DC 7/29/06

I cruised on down there yesterday afternoon and found Diwan Bhathal withering from the heat, on his way back to the car. One nice thing about cemeteries is that most anything you'll see fits the "Brett Weston photogenic" model.

Nothing really caught my eye there so we drove the 3 miles or so over to the Franciscan Monastery and spent an hour in the grotto. I made two 8 x 10 negatives and Diwan ran a roll of Foma 120 through his Brownie Hawkeye. (He says they have much better quality lenses than Holgas.)

On our way home we stopped at Politics and Prose for a doppio. I think I might have made some good photographs yesterday, but the heat makes it pretty misearable out there, no matter where you go. Hopefully this heat wave will be over by next weekend.

I'm all the more glad I stayed home, hearing about how miserable the weather was. I did get my film developed, and had a good Pd printing session this morning. I'm in the process of scanning some stuff from Kenilworth and will post here shortly.

When my eye is fully stabilized and I have my new eyeglass prescription I want to go back to Kenilworth Gardens. What a find. There's a lifetime of images in every pond.

Agreed, with the caveat of having the right lenses for the format, and having the right format on you at the time... Will was unable to get anything there that day because he had the 11x14 with him, and the shot he wanted would have required something like a 48" lens, and even then, he would have been standing in one of the ponds. Not a pretty sight.

I've got hip waders. They work great. Can't help him with the 48" lens, though.

When I'm in that situation I get out the Hasselblad equipped with the 250mm Sonnar. It's equivalent to about a 40" lens on an 8x10, so it should be plenty of reach for what he wanted to do with the 11x14.
