Rochester or Bust - Rolling Up My Sleeves, Making a Move...

I had a great day chatting with Ron and Mark a couple of Octobers ago, so you have my respect and envy. Good luck!

Best wishes and good luck from a fellow Kansan. It sounds like a wonderful opportunity.

Don't forget your snow shovel.

Dave

This sure is exciting to hear! Have a great time Chris, I wish I could go too.

Have fun Chris!

Chris

Just thought of something.. how are you going to explain you massive use of internet , talking on APUG during working hours to your new bosses??
You have already spilled the beans on this one... ah maybe PE has me on ignore and won't see this post.

I think we are going to hear a lot less from you... what will we do without you!!!

Bob

Best wishes, Chris. This is what APUG is all about.

Congratulations Chris, it's a great opportunity, latch on with both hands and have a great ride.

Absolutely fantastic! Congratulations to you, of course, but also to Mark and Ron. They are going to seriously (and hopefully, not always seriously) benefit from your injection of energy and curiosity. Give 'em hell . Looking forward to your 'letters home.'

This is great stuff.

Since you are moving to Rochester, there are several things that I learned when I worked there:
  • Rochester looks great in snow.
  • Spring is wonderful, do not miss the Lilac Festival http://www.lilacfestival.com/. Walk around High Land Park during the Festival.
  • Fall is great, however if you want to shoot fall colors and waterfall, you need to know that the Finger Lakes and the rivers in Western New York are formed by the retreating glaciers. The rivers run North. The sun does not shine or only shines on the waterfalls for short times during the day [and never at night, but I digress.]. To get photographs of Sun illuminated waterfalls use this software: Dead Link Removed and read there tutorials: http://stephentrainor.com/tools/ Highly recommended by humble me. [Insert disclaimer about not connected to the enterprise by friendship or economically.]
  • Kodak was founded in Rochester because it is the World's largest natural darkroom.
  • The standard 18% Gray card is the same color as the sky in Rochester.
  • During the winter, stop signs and traffic lights are merely advisory. Drive appropriately.
  • The local newspaper is called the Democrat and Chronicle, www.democratandchronicle.com/which is called the "D&C". As a male you should know that Rochester NY is the only place in the World where a male can get a DNC! Warning: Keep your legs together and never turn you back! You have been warned!

Come for a Visit

Hi Chris, if you get a chance (and since Rochester is closer than Kansas to New Hampshire) try to get some time to visit me. I'll put you to work making a Dye Transfer print.

My theory is that Silver Halide will be important again if civilization cannot continue to support the silicon industry - a few priests have to keep the faith alive!

Chris:

It is always wonderful when people follow their dream.

I'm rooting for you, for PE and for Mark.

great stuff !

wonderful stuff chris,
best of luck and lots of fun !

happy trails

Excellent, you clearly have a drive and curiosity deeply needed in the chemical cult of photography. I am envious of your time in Rochester. Shall we trade addresses and become pen pals? I've become an unofficial apprentice at B+S at the ripe age of 24--working under Mr. Sullivan and team. Send each other failed attempts and descriptions on WTF is going on?!

Just a thought, but hell, go at it man. Good on ya!

In response to some observations that have apparently now been removed from this thread, I seem to recall that there has been in the past some passably good work done in this field by a couple of professional musicians .

So Chris (and Klainmaster too as well) I would add - don't let doubt get in the way of your passion.

In more recent years Dr Mike Ware was funded by Kodak to do his research into alternative processes. Unfortunately that source of funding has dried up but there's still a need for further explorations.

Hopefully Chris will revive or take further some older ideas.

Ian

Dude! That's just awesome. The best of luck to you and Ron! I'm a bit envious at the opportunity you have received. Safe travels friend!

Sounds like a great opportunity, hope you enjoy it. And while you're there, go to the War Memorial and take in an Amerks game!

Go for it, Chris, and best of luck, adventure, and success to you.

Best of luck, Chris! Sounds like a great opportunity. Hopefully, you can bring much back to us in the wider community.
