What a haunting photo. One of the things that strikes me about it is how she looks like a young woman just working a job. In the days before the rise of "youth culture," 15 year olds were pretty much adults (young adults, to be sure), unlike now.

I finally bought a copy of the "Americans"; and the NPR story is great coincidence. Frank's best pictures do capture something of the individual or group dynamics.

I never new he was Walker Evan's assistant. Great article and images.
