Great story, Thanks for sharing it (and in my own back yard so to speak).

What a wonderful young woman, in such a tragic situation she can show such compassion for a thief, if the bastard had stolen my Canon FTb I would still want him punished.

Great story indeed. We can learn something though, never let anything valuable inside the car. When I park I allways move the stuff in the trunk or take it with me (camera, tripod, laptop whatever happens to be in the car at the time); Even if I have an old camera that I bought for $5 I would still be mad to lose it to a thief.

On the one hand, the thief had the compasion to return the camera. But, he still took it in the first place. A bit like buyer's remorse, perhaps thief's remorse.

And then I think about the possible conspiracy. A reporter, looking for a good news story, looks for someone dying from some disease. Targets the family to steal, then return the camera to generate the "awww" factor in his report.

Such cynicism, Nigel! A lump of coal in your stocking!

Actually, first thing I thought was that the thief probably could not find a place to hock an old 35mm film camera. (I need the coal this winter! )

The thief had 1/2 a conscience (if you can call it that). If you read the comments further down, he also stole a Samsung camera from her and didn't return that. A thief is a thief is a thief.
