I have a Sunpak DX12R ringlight and I like it a lot. It is a TTL capable unit using an adaptor obtained separately for each camera system it's to be used with. Non TTL use is easily done with the generic adaptor it comes with.

I once saw a portrait shot with a ring flash. The eyes were so mysterious! Eyes aware of all things. Very interesting.
