Rikenon P Question

I just took delivery of a 28mm f/2.8 Rikenon P lens. I know that putting one of these on a Pentax AF camera runs the risk of getting it stuck on so I will not try it on my Pentax DSLR. I notice that when I set the lens to A, the pin sticks out. When I take it off of A, the pin goes back in. I understand that the other contacts are not meant to work with Pentax cameras for metering. If I leave the aperture ring off of A, would it be safe to use the lens on plain K mount Pentax cameras without the A metering contacts?
