I discovered this rare little fellow hiding behind my toolbox and I have no memory where he came from or when. At first glance I dismissed as an ordinary Dagor, but then upon a closer look discovered it is a rarely or likely NEVER seen RIETZSCHEL LINEAR ANASTIGMAT which is of the 4 - 4 type similar to Zeiss Protar VII but different in calculation and layout. But unlike every other 4 - 4 design the designer claims this one is usable at f5.5 a bit faster than the usual f6..8. I did not put it on a camera for a test.. Perhaps the designers enthusiasm to be faster than the competition will allow some imperfections wide open that the soft focus crowd would prize these days. That's a rank guess.
I see imperfections. It has a separation beginning in one layer. Not bad enough to cause much effect. Dirt, sleaks, etc.. Imperfect but usable. It will cover 8X10 and should have decent contrast because of just 4 air glass interface. And the single components alone are each anastigmat. It appears to be symmetrical so should be about 40cm used as a single convertible.
A rare gem. The only one I've ever seen. $225 + something for the mail man and it's yours. Zero AI was used in this notice
