Short notice trip to Richmond, VA tomorrow. I have never been out of the hotel there--any recommendations? I'm doing the google as well as searching archives. I will have from about 2pm until dark-no tripod and a Rollei around my neck.

Maymont and the Fan were pretty interesting to me. I did not take pictures yet when I was there, so I don't know if they would be photographically interesting, but they were certainly fun to see!

I'm looking into Mayfield--thanks for the quick reply. I know there is all kinds of things to go see, I just wanted to narrow it down. I have to fly down Sat. afternoon then fly right back out Sunday morning. No much time to waste.

Don't look too hard! I got the name wrong! It's Maymont, not Mayfield. I realized my mistake and fixed it.

I caught it--thanks. I was wondering how it changed after I refreshed the page.

Well, you don't say where your hotel is located. Hollywood Cemetery is a great place (that would be my first recommendation), the James River in the downtown area has some nice rapids and rock formations, Monument Avenue and The Fan district have some interesting subjects (buildings and statues), as 2F/2F said, Maymont Park, has some nice gardens, although I don't know how nice they would be this time of year, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, the University of Richmond campus has some great old buildings and nice grounds, The Virginia House, Agecroft Hall, there are lots of Civil War battlefield parks, Carytown (if you like street photography) can have some really interesting subjects.

Also the Pump house near Maymont. Belle Island is a good place. BTW I have a Rollei TLR.

Jeff

I spent the afternoon at Hollywood Cemetary. Wow. Thanks for all the suggestions!

If the old Tredegar Iron Works are still standing
down by the James, they would offer interesting
material for photographs. I've not visited Richmond
in years so they might have been demolished or
(worse yet) turned into a tourist destination.

Sadly, the latter...
