It's the 10th Anniversary of the first Toy Camera Print Exchange on APUG (2006), but it seems the last exchange was held in 2009?? That just won't do! Let's revive this TCP exchange!

So, anyone up for a new round of TCP to commemorate this anniversary? If so, I'm willing to moderate a new TCP exchange (TCP-3), starting in September or October (after the holidays) with a deadline for sending in November 2016. (Yes: you may start shooting now to get a head start.)

This will be a worldwide group print exchange, with groups of no more than 4-6 people. So let me know how many prints you're willing to send. And if some folks can only afford to send one print, please PM me. We can make that work also. When I've got all the names and numbers, I will form all the groups, so everyone should send and receive the same amount of prints. If there's a shortage somewhere to form another complete group, I'll fill in the gap myself with some extra prints.

And what's a toy camera? Probably almost anything with lots of plastic, light leaks or lack of decent camera features :smile: When in doubt, just PM me.

How to participate:
1) Please let us know in this thread if you like to participate and how many prints you'd like to send out. For now the signing up period will be open until August 15th, 2016.
2) When enough APUGers joined, I'll start forming the groups. To do so, I'll request all to send me a PM (at that time) with your name, address and the type of camera you're gonna use.
3) I'll form the groups and will send PM's to everyone with the names & addresses of their assignments before September 1st. You then have 3 months to fulfill your part of the exchange.

Exchange Rules:
1) It is a toy camera exchange, so the rules are minimal.
2) The original image must be shot with an analogue toy camera.
3) it doesn't have to be an new print, you may use your archive as well.
4) You can send the same print to everyone, or different ones to each. You choose.
5) Form, size, format, mounted or not, b/w or color, straight print or alt-photo, ....: you choose the way you'd like to print.
6) Homemade prints or pro lab are both fine. Please no inkjet prints.
7) You're kindly requested to comment on the received prints in the TCP-2016 thread (yet to be opened).
8) If anything else comes up, I'll let you know.
9) Did I mention that toy camera and print exchanges are fun??

Questions:
Any questions? Please let me know and send me a PM!!
Bert from Holland

What happened?
Seriously, this would be a fun project and with the re-newed popularity in Toy Cameras and the exposure from Lomography, I would think there would be a lot of people wanting to join a totally stress free, 'snapshot' type print exchange. And for some of us, lo-tech is exactly what we try to produce.
Personally, I shoot for technical and aesthetic perfection. What I most often get is anything but technical and aesthetic perfection.

This is a party everyone can come to.
I'd like to see it happen. If TheToadMen is still willing to organize, count me in!

Hi Ken,
Yes I certainly would like to organize it if there is enough interest, which seems to be the case now :smile:
Who else would like to join?

YES!! WE’RE ON!
I'll send you all a PM asking for your address, etc and how may prints you want to send (max. 5 prints for this group). When I've received all answers, I'll send out the assignments, etc.

Here are some guidelines for how we'll make this exchange work and how new groups can be started later on.

Starting the first group (TCP-2017-1):
1) The first TCP exchange group (TCP-2017-1) will be starting with these members, each sending a print to the other members:
* OptiKen
* MrBrowning
* adelorenzo
* mooseontheloose
* bvy
* TheToadMen

2) Please send me a PM with your name, address and the type of camera you're gonna use. I then send a PM to everyone with the names & addresses of their assignments before August 1st.
3) You have 3 months to fulfill your part of the exchange. This first group will shoot & print in May or June with a deadline for sending one print (or more if you like) to each member of this group member the end of July 2017.
4) I’ll open a new thread later for this first group to discuss the made & received prints. You're kindly requested to comment on the received prints in the new TCP-results-thread.

How to participate in a new group:
1) Please let us know in this thread if you like to participate and how many prints you'd like to send out.
2) If new members arrive, then I'll form another group as soon as there are 4 to 6 members per group.

General Exchange Rules:
1) It is a toy camera exchange, so the rules are minimal.
2) The original image must be shot with an analogue toy camera. If you’re in doubt about your camera qualifying as a “toy camera”, plese send me a PM and I’ll help (we’re flexable).
3) It doesn't have to be a new image or print, you may use your archive as well.
4) You can send the same print to everyone, or different ones to each memeber. You choose.
5) Form, size, format, mounted or not, b/w or colour, straight print or alt-photo, ....: you choose the way you'd like to print.
6) Homemade prints or pro lab are both fine. Please no inkjet prints.
7) You're kindly requested to comment on the received prints in the TCP-thread (yet to be opened).
8) If anything else comes up, I'll let you know.
9) Did I mention that toy cameras and print exchanges are fun??

All PM's are sent to the 6 members of the first group (TCP-2017-01) :smile:

As soon as enough new members arrive, I'll start a second group in time.

I received some questions that I would like to post here as well:

Question: What's a toy camera?

Probably almost anything with lots of plastic, light leaks or lack of decent camera features. :smile: But when in doubt, just PM me. Homebrew pinhole cameras and a toy lens stuck onto a 4x5" filed camera are just fine too! Or as one participant said: "a Holga lens that came from a destroyed Holga Panoramic camera that I'll put on either my Speed graphic or Arax 60".

Question: You said "assignment" so is there a theme?
I used "assignment" to emphasis that by joining a TCP-group one commits to actually sending the prints, like others will do to you. But there is no theme, indeed. You decide what you'll shoot and how you'll print (but no inkjet prints please).

Question: Do I have to commit to one toy camera? I have several.
You'll have to make 5 prints to send out within a group of 6 participants. The names and addresses will come later by PM (= assignment). What and how you're gonne shoot is up to you. You can make 5 different prints, or use 5 different cameras, etc. You decide what you'll send to whom.

Question: How many prints do I have to send?
At the moment we're making groups of 6 participants so you'll have to send out 5 prints: that is a minimum of one print to each of the other 5 participants in your group. If you want to send each member two print (or more) you're most welcome to do so.
If however sending 5 prints is too expensive for you, then please send me a PM. Maybe I can arrange/mix something so that everyone in a specific group will get the same amount of images in return as he has sent out.

Question: When will the next group start?
As soon as 4 to 6 new participants enlisted themselves I will form a new group. Just post your interest in this thread and I'll put you on the (waiting) list.

If applications are not closed yet, please count me in too!

Does my 8 Euro Kodak Retinette count? :D (or I might buy an Ilford single use camera... should be fun!)

Thanks
Etienne

I'm still awaiting one PM with address info from a participant in the TCP-2017-01. When I received it, I'll send out the list to all members.

Cameras mentioned to be most likely used: Holga, Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim, Lubitel 2, Brownie (with flipped lens), Brownie (regular), Diana F+, pinhole.
And even a: "Holga lens that came from a destroyed Holga Panormaic camera that I'll put on either my Speed graphic or Arax 60" :smile:

On an other note: it seems that Group 2 is getting pretty close too.

I've dug out my equipment and loaded a roll of film in my Holga & Diana. Now if I can just find some time to take it outdoors.
