Reveni Labs Camera Tester: Outlook

I pre-ordered the Reveni Labs Camera Tester yesterday, delivery should be in April/May this year.

Features (according the site mentioned below):

Matt Bechberger, the designer of the device, answered all of my questions quickly and in detail.

Ordering online, including order confirmation, was easy and smooth.

Regarding accessories, Matt informed that the device alone is sufficient for 35 mm cameras.

If any repairs should be necessary, the user should be able to do this themselves without special tools, so emphasis was placed on easy disassembly/assembly.

The Reveni Tester was obviously intended to fill a gap in the market for everyone who repairs analog cameras.

Some of the devices previously used for this are large and are no longer manufactured, and there is no longer any service for them.

I am not aware of any devices that can be purchased that are comparable to the Reveni Tester. I also think the price for the device is very fair.

I will report my experiences here.

This looks a really well thought out piece of test kit. I would like to know how he corrects for sensor width when testing.
I used an algorithm which uses all three of my sensors to ensure accuracy and calibrate for sensor width. For a leaf shutter, one cannot measure iris speed and so one (or I, at least ) can only apply a bias to the recorded figure..

The cost of developing and manufacturing a turn-key product is not insignificant, especially for a low volume product, so the price seems reasonable, as does the manufacturer, who, I think like me, is a tinkerer with electronics & enjoys making things.

I chose to offer mine free (subject to photos of it's completion being posted ) rather than try to bring it to the market as a fully completed item, however, the user has to build it themselves )

I have also made a film developing timer, a bit posher than just a three line LCD. It is colour & beeps & nags when the user has to do something like agitate or change chemical. It even operates a stepper motor, for twiddlers.
Next I might make a trigger-timer, which delays the firing of a flash when triggered by noise or light or broken beam. Shooting vegetables with an air-gun works well. Also it will operate solenoid valves, so one can squirt water droplets sequentially & capture their collision to get the classis crown, which is created when the first squirt has hit the water and is bouncing back up as it gets hit by the second squirt. I have built one of these in the past, which worked really well, but an update is in order with tft screen.

I have the highest respect for anyone who designs and builds such devices.

This requires profound knowledge and skills in several disciplines at the same time.
