Returning to film after a long absence.

Hi everyone

After several years of digital photography (well snapshots really) and finally getting totally fed up with the shutter response limitations of my Finepix 9500 (great digital camera but just doesn't cut it for capturing fast moving objects and my daughter is a speedskater) I've returned to my old love and treated myself to another Canon A1, Canon 35 - 110 zoom, Series 1 70-210 zoom & Canon F5.6 300mm (would love the F2.8 but still rare and expensive). I used to process and print all my own B&W and Colour stuff years ago but haven't got the space for a darkroom so I'm just planning on processing and scanning my negs/slides and then printing using the inkjet (Epson R300 so pretty acceptable quality if settings are tweaked.)

I'm currently on the lookout for a reasonable priced motor drive for the A1 so I intend to bulk buy the film and load my own as otherwise 5 fps can start getting costly.

Actually returning to film isn't totally true as I've continued to use film underwater whenever I get the chance, which isn't that often these days, and swear by (and occasionally at) my Motormarine 11EM setup.

I was at a park yesterday with my 3-year-old niece. She was playing on a slide and I was getting 4-6 shots of her going down the slide each time (using my Nikon F5, admittedly a pretty high-end film body). A woman liked the idea and tried shooting her kid going down the slide with her digital point-and-shoot. On three trips down the slide, her son ended up appearing in no pictures at all. The lag was just too slow.

7.4 fps and almost instant shutter firing does have some value, even if I do have the annoyance of reloading the camera quite often.

Hello All,
Frenetically I am reading as much threads as possible here on APUG. This is a fantastic course for me. I am not professional photographer but have my own dark-room at home and can be so happy with " a fine print" and I just decided to give photography a bigger place in my life.
Sometimes I want to make photographs, getting this feeling of happiness, but don't find subject. There is a German photographer called Gursky, he made a (color-) photo of the harbour of Salerno, and the way everything on this picture fits together amazes me, everything on the right place, in the right color...
I make B & W pictures and love the classic films like PAN F and FP4 for 35 mm and Plus-X and Tri-X for MF and miss the Agfa barythine paper but I read to my surprise that some people are working hard to bring a paper like that back.
I am cook in Rotterdam, sometimes on vessels or dredging ships, sometimes in a more lurury restaurant.
As already said I read with interest the dialoges and learn so much about my materials, at the moment trying to get real control over the negative-development.
My old equipment works fine: a Nikkormat, a Pentax MF and a Durst L 1000.
