Retina lens hood /UV filter question

Coming from SLRs I am used keeping a UV filter on the lens for protection and using a lens hood. My question for Retina users is can you close the camera with a UV filter on it? - And do you use a lens hood? -- seems like that would defeat the pleasure of a compact folder.

My Retina IIIc will close with one Kodak filter in place. And I use a lens hood... always. It doesn't defeat anything except the chance of flare.
