The white boxes are fine. The Ilford PAN 100 and PAN 400 boxes are really beautiful and classy in the English way.

By the way, i like Kodak, Fuji, Foma and Ilford, but ILFORD has by far the best logo and typeface, and the most beautiful, best laid-out technical datasheets! So compliments to your graphic department!

I have just completed the survey. Frankly i don't know what to ask Ilford for, you guys have a complete range of films and papers. Oh, yes, how about reversal (or direct positive) Color paper!! Ok, i know Ilford has said they will not do color films... But perhaps this means they will do COLOUR films?

Or in any case how about some Ilford darkroom equipment for making LARGE prints (say, 70x100cm), for example a paper development tank that can be placed horizontally and rocked with a handle. I always thought that if large prints could be easily made on home darkrooms, and thus displayed at more homes, film photography would be far popular now...

Translation problem

I had to look up what a High Street photo shop might be, and I was sad not to see an option for one on Main Street.

Maybe be putting a little hint next to "High Street" for us over here?

I did suggest that Ilford / Harman undertake a spear-heading of sorts to make sure photographers of all income levels and interest levels have access to decent darkroom equipment to purchase. Between what is going to the landfill, discontinued, on the verge of such and the prices, in 10-15 year's time, it might be hard to justify the analog process to those who don't have the tools.

I also think there is a market for not only refurbished used darkroom equipment but artistically restored like a classic cars.

*update*, here is a (there was a url link here which no longer exists) of us film users not thinking of the bigger picture...

I think your white packaging is the classiest in the film marketplace. Effective use of whitespace is just as striking in a film box as it is in a magazine page design layout.

Picking up an unopened pristine white Ilford box gives me a sense of anticipation that I haven't experienced since the days I would always smell (!!!) the Kodachrome canister before loading the roll. One whiff and I just knew it was going to be a good day with that loaded camera.

Many thanks for the explanation.
I also miss those colour lids, especially as they made it easier to see which film is inside! Oh, and that embossed Ilford logo! What a nice thing was that!

I use both Kentmere and the Pan range. The shop I use sells them at the same price, so it is really a matter of personal preference. I like K100 for its fine qualities in a Summer's day and the Pan 400 for its grain in a murky day.
Having a white box sitting next to a black box is a big help to identify them. When I have K100 and K400, I have to keep them in different shelves or I run the risk of picking up the wrong box.

Yes, the boxes are very nice, be it white or black. and I love the way they open flat as a pancake. Oh and they are also of the highest quality.

One whiff and I just knew it was going to be a good day with that loaded camera.

In the section "other comments" I proposed to offer a "Photo paper sampler" with 3-5 sheets in e.g. 5"x7" of a variety of papers by Ilford (FB / RC, glossy / matte, cool / warm tone). Sometimes I would find it easier to try different options in small amounts before making a buying decision for a larger package. For instance, I've seen interesting samples with Ilford MGWT on the web, but trying a few sheets by myself would make me more comfortable to buy.

What do others think ?
