Req opinions of Peterloy, London

Has anyone any experience of dealing with Peterloy of London (http://www.peterloy.com/)?

They have a lens that I'm after and I'm wondering what they're like to do business with.

Any opinions of Melgray of Hereford (Dead Link Removed) would also be appreciated.

I've been into the Melgray shop in Hereford - it's the usual small town photography store, but they do carry film as well as digital stuff. I've never bought of them via the web but they do have a high-street presence will real people behind the counters who seem to know a bit about photography. Why not call them? If they do let you down, I've gotfamily in the area, and know one or two of the people based in the local army base. (a quick google on Hereford & Army will give you an idea!)

I just bought an MPP Micro Technical from Peter Loy. Very friendly to deal with and the camera is as good if not better than described (they knocked a fair bit off the listed price due to a very very minor RF alignment problem). Shipping (to NL) was fast, well packed and for a pretty reasonable price.

So, from my brief experience, they were very good to deal with.

I too have been in Melgrays quite a few times, seemed very helpful, with a reasonable collection of second hand film cameras, a number of Mamiya C330s, Leicas etc but I've never brought anything mail order from them.

Damn, I was hoping you would all chime in with, "They're a pack of charlatans, lock up your wallet and run away as fast as your legs will carry you!".

I bought a Rolleiflex 3.5F from Peter Loy, the cameras appearance/condition was exactly as described, but it seemed to me that the meter wasn't working correctly...Peter immediately gave me the contact details of his repairer so that I could talk to them directly. The repairer had just serviced the camera, but asked me to send it back to him to re-check. It turned out to be me using the meter incorrectly rather than being the camera, but they were both very sporting about it! I'd have no hesitation in recommending Peter Loy!

Well, in the end I contacted Pete Loy and purchased a 55mm lens for my C330S. It arrived promptly but on very close inspection turned out to have a couple of minor flaws.

At this point Peter really showed his class - I returned the lens which he then had cleaned and serviced at his expense and, when I still wasn't totally happy with it (I'm an overly-fussy miserable beggar at times!), he refunded both the purchase price and all postage expenses I'd incurred! His manner throughout was extremely professional, friendly and courteous and I would buy from him again without a moment's hesitation.

It's so good to be able to say something nice about a company for a change!
