Replacing foam seals on Horseman roll-film backs

I’m not (yet) familiar with these backs but need to acquire a couple for a new-to-me camera. A lot of those on eBay seem to need new light seals. So two questions:

What’s the appropriate thickness for the seal material?

Are there any tricks to replacing these, or are they straightforward?
