Hi folks,

at first ... sorry for my poor english ... my german is much better

Since many years I use a great Peak Enlarging Focuser 2020 (Model II). Over the time there are many ugly scratches on the mirror. Now I wonder if I could replace the mirror ... but I only find a replacement mirror for Model I! So I have two questions:

At first: Can I replace the mirror of the Peak Focuser 2020 by myself? If yes ... how?

And second: How thick is the mirror from the 2020? Is it exactly 3 mm (the Model I mirror has 6 mm)? Because I would order a new mirror from Edmund Scientific if there is no other replacement mirror.

Thank you very, very much for your help and ...

Greetings
Dirk

Okay ... sorry. I have take a look on the 2020 ... the mirror is glued  So I think there is no chance to replace the mirror.

I am not near my darkroom, so I can't check. But I think with some of the Peak focusers you simply turn around the mirror !
Perhaps this does not work with all the models, but if you see a way to open it . . . just try !

swapping the mirror isn't hard even if it's glued as long as the replacement glass is the same thickness.
I've used single edged razor blades to separate glued mirrors before, just don't pry on the glass. You want the
blade to slide between the two pieces & work the blade around the perimeter a few times, You shouldn't try
to make deep cuts just a little bit each revolution.

Thank you so much ... then I could try to replace the mirror.

I think the mirror is a little bit greater than 53x27 mm? This is the visible area of the mirror.

Look into getting a Peak Model 1 if you can - it might not be much more on the used market than a replacement mirror and it's a serious step up from their model 2 and 3. plus replacement mirrors are available for it from B&H for about $25.

peakoptics.com lists a "replacement mirror / frame assembly" for the Peak 2020 at 49 USD.

Shouldn't that be a first surface mirror?
For $49US you can buy 5 used focusers on EBay to replace that one.

I have a model II and as far as I can see, it is very easy to take the mirror out and turn it around.
Regards,
Frank
