I recently acquired a Graflex Series B 4x5 in at best fair condition. It works but is missing the focusing hood. Does anyone have a source for a replacement hood or ideas on a substitute? Thanks, Ed
I think Custom bellows would be happy to make one for you, but Im not sure if the price would be right for your camera. There should be others with same service and possibly better prices.
Thanks for the advice, rather than the bellows for the lens, I need the focusing hood that goes on top of the camera as you look down into the ground glass. Sorry about the typo before, I've corrected it to say hood not bellows.
Do you have any of the view hood? Metal frame that secures it to the gg frame? Metal bar and retainers that hold it to the view door?
There is/was a template link for a hood on https://graflex.org/helpboard/ but a search for view hood did not turn it up so its likely in a post of a different title.
If the metal parts are missing its best to find another body and rob parts from it.
The Telescopic Graflex was discontinued in 1922. The Series B was introduced in 1923. There are Telescopic Graflex wearing the Series B badge and Series B wearing the Telescopic Badge from 1921 to 1924 with the bulk in 1922-1923.
I don't have any of the parts for the hood. I had thought about buying another one for parts. I think it is a Series B, the identifying badge that I have seen in pictures on other cameras is missing on this one. Thanks!
I found the thread but the links are dead. https://graflex.org/helpboard/viewtopic.php?topic=2631&forum=11
A Series B has a small opening for the lens with a door, other Graflex SLR's lens door is almost as large as the front standard.
The serial number is on the view door, what is it?

im not going to be much help but ... if you can't find an original hood, look for a monocular viewer that toyo makes. it is like a rubber hood with a magnifier on the end. i don't use one with my series D but i use it with every other ground glass type camera.. makes focusing a breeze..
