Remote shutter release help please

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if I will need a shutter release cable for each camera I intend to use or is it possible some will fit each other I have Praktica/Jenaflex which I guess will match but also have a Zenit TTL and a little Cosmic 35m which I am really keen on using. Do they physically press the shutter release. ?

Most 35mm cameras share a common shutter hole thread, there are some exceptions but I think they are rare, so one cable release will very likely fit all.

There are two (german) standards on threads for cable releases.

The conical thread is ubiquitous and so far I only came across that one.

And yes, typically both, the release button and the internal bolt that is actuated by the cable release are mounted coaxial and in any case it is the latter that actually directly linked to the shutter.

According to Hansa Self timer instruction, there are three different standards.



a) Ordinary is for most all of the cameras I have.
b) Rollei - I don't have one so don't know about this one.
c) Leica - also the early Nikons like the F & F2. They switched to the "ordinary" version with the F3 as well as other models.

Sorry but I don't have any cameras of your models. The picture of the Hansa above shows it with the "ordinary" version on.

As all others above have noted, the conical threads on most cable releases originated in Europe and have become almost universal. An old standard in America had short straight American 5-44 threads. This has long ago been replaced by the conical threads almost all cameras use today.

Just don't forget the Leica cable release version, which has a tubular section on the end of the cable release! This has internal threads which fit the male threads on the shutter release, after you remove the beauty ring, which you WILL promptly lose. Grrrr..... My Nikon S2 requires such, but those crafty Nikon engineers didn't add a beauty ring.
