I'd like to find something to remotely trigger my film cameras that use a cable release. B&H doesn't seem to have anything to do this. Does anyone know if they even exist.
How long of cable do you want? I have several in different lengths. Are you looking for the standard 35mm style or the larger Leica and older Nikon fitting? I might be willing to part with one.
This pops up every once and again, I think most of the proposed solutions center around an inexpensive radio release & adapting a solenoid to actually trip the shutter.
If you need something mechanical, you can get an air release with a twenty foot tube pretty inexpensively.
Olympus used to make a couple of different ones for the OM system mostly for use with the 250 exposure back, and set up for photographing sports or wildlife. The intervalometer could be set up to automatically trigger the camera at set intervals, and the other was a remote that was operated by the photographer at will.
I have one that uses RC car parts. It works for everything but my Speed Graphic focal plane shutter which is too hard to trip. It fits onto a standard cable release.
Hi Jon,
Yes I know about the variety of servos. My difficulty has been converting rotational movement to linear. There is a linear adapter for one of the Futaba's but I believe it's a discontinued model.
RC servos are nearly always used to convert rotational motion to linear, and come with horns to do so. My design uses an unmodified RC servo and the horn that came with it. I would post a picture but I'm digitally challenged.
