Aside from your obvious trolling, I just want to make a few things clear: I am a purist, a darkroom and a photography nut. This is what I do ever since I was 15.
Kids were skateboarding, I was darkrooming. Shooting. Exhibiting. Working. Traveled. Cut through the bullshit of wanting my work to be seen and been doing it like Yoda just for myself, for my own satisfaction and to give my eyes something pleasing to look at because, in the end, I have found NO SATISFACTION in other people’s photohraphy, not even the masters (except a few, of course).

Now the SWC: that Biogon is among the top most acclaimed lenses in the world. One could rightfully argue it is the single best lens in the world and it would be hard for anyone to counter-argue objectively. It is one of those historical lenses. A jewel. It’s a German Zeiss, simply the best.

About my work: my negatives are exposed from light that exclusively travel through first rate lenses. Then, they are developed by me, and printed with the very best enlargers and lenses in the world. Then, toned and washed with an insane quantity of water. Who knows how many Whales I’ve killed with the quantity of water my photography has used. I simply don’t mess around with killing whales for printing Lomo stuff. I only do it if it involves the Highest quality along the whole process. No half-assing.

Now about what you are seeing: what I’m showing here is an iphone shot of a print that’s soaking in a fixing bath. In other words: severely impaired by a huge magnitude.

In other words, if one of the images I post looks like one of your Lomo scans you have access to, this can only prove that, indeed, a perfect print of a perfect negative shot with a SWC, and which then gets destructed and downgraded several steps in order to show up on the web, is equal to your Lomo scans. Which in turn proves that the Biogon 38mm is a superior lens.

The Biogon 38mm will always be a superior lens. It’s simply what it has always been: superior.

I do not mind your Trolling. Let’s just call it as it is.

why is Lomo stuff half-assing, it isn't "pure" ?? plenty of great images can be made with any sort of camera, doesn't need to be Zeiss lenses Swedish or German cameras, doesn't need to be allegedly the best enlargers and lenses in the world, none of that really matters. all this gear worship is pretty hillarous. at least you got the squirrel nest nice and sharp.

A very convenient camera, really. I'd prefer to use a Lomo LC-A, however most likely the better purchase would be the Hassy-- I can't figure the lomo LC-A surviving more than 10 years of use.

The german camera and optics industry, more particularly Rollei, Zeiss and Voigltander, thought they were "the best" so much that they went on to be challenged and technically surpased by the japanese in the 70s and beyond. They chose to rest on their laurels believing they were making the "single best stuff in the world". Now look at where they are today. Already on the '80s and 90's two japanese companies (*) were matching or beating Zeiss at the optical game in medium format. Optical design excellence doesn't require having a German DNA in your blood -- it requires an ambitious company willing to spend the extra money on R&D. And "resting in your laurels" goes against "ambition".

Now look at where they are now: "Zeiss" lenses today are made by Tomioka...

I dunno. The junk I get from my Chinese Lomo seems sharper. And I like the way it draws better.

I always found the SWC a potentially useful camera if you want to photograph a scene. What was really difficult for me was if I wanted to use it to photograph something in that scene. It generally ended up very small, or distorted if I got close. The only exception being if I wanted to photograph something round! Like this:

But sadly, now my life is empty and I know it. I sold it. The Distagon 50/4 has consoled me for my loss.

Yes! I've been working on a series of pictures where my feet are intentionally part of the composition. I think it can give a sense of the first person perspective which is often absent in photos (and especially landscapes). Plus, it lets me take pictures of the ground, which is a rare, challenging and interesting subject.
