What is old is new again.

I've just logged into APUG again for the first time in 2 years. I've started actively posting to Flickr.

I've been saying it for years that compared to Instagram, for photography enthusiasts, Flickr is a vastly superior platform.

You can store and view images in the full uploaded resolution. You can view uploads in chronological order. You can determine the level of censorship you can apply, both as a content creator and a viewer. And the search facility allows multiple keywords and phrases.

Considering the recent announcements and emphasis on short videos on Instagram, I'm surprised that people are not flooding back.

I use Flickr, it's incentive isn't to shove as up many ads as you can humanly take. There's less branding, less commercial activities and more on topic. Yes, groups are mostly on the silent side, but people still run them. It's just not so trendy/up-to-date anymore, which has its upsides.

I'm part of that younger crowd you mention and I find Flickr awesome. So much great film photography. So little chit-chat. So little 'community' (if I wanted a community I'd go out with my friends). None of the rude unsolicited comments people exchange on facebook film photography groups.

Reddit is ok, but doesn't even touch Flickr. Flickr is full of actual masters of large format and medium format photography and it's a pleasure to enjoy their work in silence. Instagram? Instagram is to Flickr like Buckfast is to a fine Merlot.

If you get Flickr Pro, 35mm [36x24] pictures can be stored 6144 pixels wide, about 85 lppm or 25 mpx.
IDK of any other site that offers anything like this fine detail and it is not easy to reach it.

Why don't you add your Flickr link in your signature block below like mine is so it shows whenever you post? You can also put it in your personal profile so people can find it easily. I'd love to look at your pictures. That goes for others too.

It's nice to see this thread having so many responses and that so many are using the site.

We have an iPad at home, every morning me and my 9 year old open Instagram (where I follow skateboard photographers only) and talk about which photos to like. Then we go to Reddit (where I am in the film photography group only) and do the same looking at the 'hottest' photos. I get a kick out of this and have gotten some inspiration which is what it's all about.

Does Flickr have an app? I logged in recently but the people I follow haven't uploaded for years and years. Difficult to find new people - I used to really like it when I found a group where the moderators had the same tastes as me. Found a lot of interesting people like that.

Flickr does have an app, at least in google playstore. It will run on computer https://www.flickr.com or android phone, IOS I don't know.
If you search for skateboard there are a lot of pics and maybe someone to follow.

The Flickr iOS app works fairly well. I haven’t posted in a long time, but I check occasionally for newly posted stuff and there’s still good material there.

I've been on Flickr since 2010. I think their "Explore" page, which comes out everyday, is an interesting collection of random photos. I've sort of given up the on the groups, though, as not all of them follow the rules and their admins seem to be busy enough. That being said, Flickr is the one place where I initially publish any photos of mine I consider interesting. I've kept up my "Pro" account all these year, and will most likely continue doing so... even though I'm nowhere near the limit the "free" account would provide.

(And yes, my signature contains my Flickr page... grin).

I joined Flickr about ten years ago.
When I started the groups where a fantastic resource, they have sadly become increasingly poor, as moderators leave & people start spamming/dumping.
Much of the downward slide happened after Yahoo took over, but it still seems to prefer quantity to quality. Fortunately the old information in groups is still available. Even if the owners don't seem to support groups much anymore.

I generally check for new discussions in my groups every day. But haven't uploaded any new pictures in months.
