Just picked up an almost mint Rolleicord V, with case, for CHEAP. However, shutter speeds of 1/15 or slower are off. I'd like to get a CLA for it but, not sure who to turn to. I've read about Harry Fleenor but, his prices are high (though I understand if you want the best then...) and he has a big wait list. Any body else out there I could send it to? How much should I expect to pay? Thanks in advance for your recommendations.
You may want to check with Krikor Maralian at Krimar Photo Shop in Elmwood Park, NJ. Krikor used to work for Marflex and has over 25 years experience on old Rolleiflex/Rolleicord cameras. He is well known for doing good work at reasonable prices and has worked on my Rolleiflex 3.5F Planar 12/24 for years.
KEH did an excellent job on my 3.5F (repaired transport, adjusted speeds) and the turnaround was only a couple of days. They'll give you a quote via email.
I can't really say. I believe that it is less expensive for a Rolleicord than a Rolleiflex, but I am not sure. Give Krikor a call tomorrow. I'm sure he will give you a range based on what needs to be done. If springs, etc. have to be replaced that will certainly add to the price.
Essex Camera has done mine a couple of times, the first CLA was $120. When I dropped it and caused the film to jam, it was $100, since I had already had it serviced within a year. They have done a baby Rollei and an Automat for me as well and the work is always spot on, quick and reasonable.
BTW, just got my Contax III back and it purrs like a kitten as well.
Thank you very much for the suggestions everyone. Guess I have some calling around to do Cosmetically and optically it's in awesome shape. Can't wait to try this little guy out
I also recommend Krikor. I mailed my Va on a Friday and he had it back to me by Wednesday. For about $200 he did a CLA on the shutter, realligned and adjusted the focusing system, cleaned the viewing optics, repaired a light leak, and replaced the film counter. It's worth it when you realize that when he is finished you won't have to have it worked on for another 50 years or so.
