Recommendations for a 6x7 Camera

How about a Mamiya Press or a Koni-Omega Rapid.

This phenomenon is widespread across this site, users who are very engrained in their ways and recommend things out of context. For example, threads asking about a Fuji film where people recommend a Kodak film. Or in the "favorite consumer film" thread, someone saying "Kodachrome". :rolleyes:

I don't understand why you where offended by a reply asking you to reconsider your choice of format. You were also asked why you wanted a 6X7 as a everyday walkaround camera. You havn't until now given any reasons for considering 6X7 only. Bear in mind that this forum have a lot of members with a lot of experience and they just may know a thing or two that you and I don't There are reasons we never saw 6X7 SLR's used more as walkaround cameras, you know.
The ~1 kg more weight on your shoulder from a P67 oposed to a 35mm slr is actually a lot at the end of the day add to that the weight of an extra lens or two the 10 shots a roll, a somewhat slower filmchange and a dimmer wievfinder on the older versions and you might find it not as suited to the task as you thought. That said I find the P6X7 to be a great camera and the format is really nice but I wouldn't disregard neither 4,5X6 or 6X6 as they will give good quality as well and perhaps even with a lot less hazle and at a lower cost.

I seem to remember you having a long period of discussion as to what format you were going to wind up with. I also seem to remember you finally saw the light and realized you can have it all! With the price of equipment so damned cheap, buy one of each. The chaff will flow to the top and be blown away, the wheat (or the coffee beans for those of you who roast their own coffee) will be what you wind up shooting .

The OP never came back and told us what he decided. Perhaps we were a bit rough on him?

Even though the RB67 is somewhat heavy I still use as carry around.

I'm considering getting a P67. Is there any difference in size between the 67 and 67ii? Also I mainly shoot with a tripod at smaller apertures, between late afternoon to early evening. I've got a manfrotto 3011 tripod with the 3265 pistol grip head. Will moderately long exposures be sharp with this set up? I'm interested in making larger prints, 20x30 and up. Thanks.

Chad, I use my P67II in a similar environment as you for landscape photography. I don't know your tripod but I had a short look at it. I think my tripod is probably somewhat sturdier. I use a Gitzo 1340 (without center column!) with a Linhof ball head III. This combination works well with lenses up to 165mm. I also get consistently sharp pictures with a 300mm ED lens which has a built-in tripod collar. But I am aware that I reach the limit of my tripod with this combination. I guess your tripod will be fine with wide angle and normal lenses. I would recommend a sturdier tripod for the tele lenses.

Thanks Joachim, I don't plan on using lenses longer than the 105mm. With my 35 I rarely took the 50mm lens off and that was to occasionally put on a 28mm lens.
