Recommend a 35mm slide projector?

I took a few slides at hawaii. I'd love to see them big.
Any suggestions? (35mm)

Any of the Kodak Ektamatic projectors should suffice. I was always envious of the Zeiss projectors that were not imported here. You might be able to pick up a Leica projector cheap now. I suppose the good thing about the Kodak is that you could buy many carousels easily.

Are there any good non-carosel projectors?
Those big wheels seem like a waste of space to me.

The Ek system could be used with a stack loader: no trays needed. The Sawyer's system could be used with 100 slide roto trays; small, flat TDC type 36? trays; as well as a stack loader.

The Leitz projectors which took the small ca. 40-European trays were excellent. Trays might be a problem. Later "Leica" projectors used EK-type caro trays.

The Kodak Ektagraphic D) slide projectors are really nice.

My wife has a Rollei autofocus projector, similar to the Leitz one referred to in a previous post.

Brilliant, fast, and, having been surrounded by Leitz projectors by many, many people, I believe it is equal to, if not slightly better than, a Leitz one.

I vote fore the Ektagraphic as it works well, easy to find, many in like new condition and cheap. The Rollei and Leica are better but are more difficult to find and much more expensive.

I also vote for the Ektagraphic, though with an upgraded lens. The stack loader works OK, but IIRC, you can not back up with them.

I've seen many projectors at the local university's property disposition building over the past couple of years. A couple of months ago I picked up a like-new Kodak Ektagraphic II A projector with a Schneider Vario-Prolux MC 70-120mm f2.8 lens, extra lamps, a 140 carousel and a really nice Kodak black canvas-like case for it all. Cost me $20. The Schneider lens is clearly better than the standard Kodak lens that normally comes with an Ektagraphic. If you live near a decent sized university, chances are you may have the opportunity to get some really cool things, cheap. At the moment, slide projectors are being replaced by digital ones on campus so now is a good time to get a projector.

I prefer the Leica/Leitz/Kindermann/Zeiss projectors with the straight trays but I couldn't pass this unit up.

Any of the generic Sawyers, GAF, or other brands that use a universal 100 slide carousel. Most also can take a straight box magazine as well. I tend to stay away from the Kodak projectors, as they are brand specific for accessories.

Best choices are Carousel/Ektagraphic and Leitz Pradovit. Even the newer and better models are really cheap today.

There is a electronics store nearby that has a Vivitar slide projector. Anyone use one of these?

My brother bought one of those Vivitar. It's ok for the price but because it's sold as new it's more expensive than a good used Ektagraphic and doesn't work as well.

I'd start browsing Craigslist, they come up often, shouldn't have to pay much if you are patient.

A very good projector has a very good lens, precise mechanics and more. You will see a big difference between a good and a bad projector on the screen in front of you.

Top-notch slide projectors are really cheap today, there is no need to buy one that was cheap when it was new. Get a good one and forget the cheapo projectors. They will slide your lantern slides, and they are notorious for sliding back. As a result, you might have to slide on your slide show...
