While I was in Rochester at the beginning of May, I was able to have lunch with Photo Engineer at the George Eastman Museum cafe. He introduced me to another engineer who worked for Kodak, Martin Scott, and we talked over a variety of photo related topics. Among these were types of gelatin for transfer matrix stock; Louis Condax and the Kodak Dye Transfer process; an antique process called Uvachrome and nickel complexes which gave strong complimentary colors. Later Prof Pixel stopped by and I was introduced to him. The whole lunch was like sitting with Henry Steinway and talking about pianos, or sitting with Fred Duesenberg and talking about cars. Later I got to visit the emulsion workshops and witness Mark Ostenman coat some film. Wonderful day!

Here is a shot of me, Martin Scott and Photo Engineer at lunch.

Some people have asked about my visit with Photo Engineer last year. Here is a photo of us at a Japanese restaurant. Photo Engineer is quite a polymath and has studied Japanese. Also shown are some notes he made. The chart second from the bottom shows how Kodak characterized their dyes, taking into account the point of maximum absorption and the width of total absorption at the halfway point. Photo nerds only.
