Reccomended Accessories.

While I wait with eager anticipation for my Yashicamat LM to arrive I figured I'd asked advice on accessories you think it might be worth me getting.

I plan on trying a variaty of photography with it from family/self portraits in doors, urban/street to probably landscapes. I have 3 tripods, couple of cheapish flashes and a couple of lights I can also use indoor for staged shots ( not sure if they're really ideal though ). Oh and some night time work including long exposures.

I plan on shooting in colour and BW.

I heard I might need a 'leica nipple' or something cable release wise and what sort of length?

LM wise we're assuming the in built one will be useless and if so any reccomendations ( on a shoe string budget ) ?

Lens hood uses Bayonet 1?

Although I do have flashes they are cheap and not sure best option so some advice/thoughts on that aspect would also be appreciated.

Since you're going to be doing B&W, you might also want to pick up a set of color filters. Is the LM Bay1? Waltz used to make some for TLRs like the old Yashicas. You might be able to scrounge some up on eBay.

If the light meter built in to the "LM" works, great, but it is limited in application at best. Still, better than none. But light meters can be had used for not much, and learning to meter with a hand held meter is a valuable skill.

A cable release can be as loing as you want it. There's no "proper" length. I'm not sure about the adapter, if needed, for a standard cable release. Could be.

Any electronic flash will work, just be sure the camera is set to the "X" setting. In fact, if the flash can be used manually with a distance scale, or on auto without input from the camera, you're good to go. You might need/want a flash bracket, though. Hanging a shoe mount flash off a tlr sideways is awkward.

Besides what else that has been mentioned: a camera bag?

There's a thin knurled ring around the shutter release on most YashicaMats. When you remove that, the expose thread can be used with a Leica/Canon to conical thread adapter. It looks ike a miniature thimble with a conical thread for the cable release at one end, and a thread inside the rim to fit the camera. Often included with air releases.

The official lens hood fits over the outside bayonet on the lens, while the filters mount inside. A screw thread adapter might be less trouble, then you can use any convenient threaded item.

That's the correct cable release adapter. I just bought one from Camerahunter on Ebay.

About the filters - You can get a Bay 1 adapter ring to step up to some common thread sizes, for example if you have 52mm Nikon or Olympus 49mm filters, a $15 adapter ring will allow you to use those filters on your Yashica.
