Afternoon fellow APUG'ers,

I have a question that’s been bugging me for some time regarding the plastic caps that fit on the rear end of the lens. I have noticed that my original caps have a tab that opens the aperture fully when put on the lens, but none of my OEM rear caps have this. My question is that is it a good idea to leave the aperture opened all the time as with the original caps, or is it safer to keep the strain off the aperture spring and allow it to stop closed?

Thanks, Thane

I have been using the caps that keep the aperture open for close to 20 years now on my minolta AF lenses and have never had a problem with any of them ever.

Thanks Dave,
I guess I am just paranoid about damaging them. I did have a sticky aperture occur once and since then I have been concerned about keeping tension on the spring.
