Compare the email in the item listing with the one given in the "me" page. Then look at all the other brand new high cost items which have suddenly appeared with a 24 hr auction... "New Dell Inspirion, 1 year guarantee"???? AFAIK, they're only sold new by Dell...
I say hijacked. If you look at what they have listed this morning, it is chock full of these same type of one day auctions with two available. They are trying to get folks to buy stuff off line. Interestingly they are using an AOL email account, I wonder if they have hijacked that as well, I would not expect a criminal to try to hide behind an AOL account, not much privacy there.
The seller has a lot of 24 hour listings where a high value item is listed for $1.00 and gives an email addy for "payment details". Sounds like either someone trying to get around ebay final value fees, or it's a hijacked account.
The two of them have probably been conspiring to drive the prices up to these ridiculous levels. Perhaps if someone starts selling digital baskets, old analog baskets like these will plummet in price!
Pulled by ebay.... If you see a 24 hour auction it is almost certainly a scam. They hijack an account and then whip in dozens of auctions hoping someone will bite before ebay gets wind of it.
Ebay seem to be getting better at spotting these, but they aught to pre-vet at least any auction under 5 days. There are at the moment dozens of ipod auctions finishing in the next few minutes with many bids on 1-day auctions for silly prices - "payment by western union or bank transfer only"...
