Real B/W printing

I know that this subject was discussed in couple of places on DPUG but I am still not sure what to do to receive real B/W prints coming from my EPSON R800. As for now I am extremely unsatisfied with results independently from ICC profiles and paper used (starting form EPSON completing on Ilford Galerie). All prints are far away from wet darkroom prints. The most annoying is some sort of color cast. Should I assume that Stylus R800 is useless for B/W prints or maybe someone has some sort of golden rule to be happy with B/W pictures?

Thank you for advise ... not quite directly answering my question .. but: I do not have access to a darkroom anymore, I do not have equipment to make wet prints from digital files, and couple of other problems with possibility to work with traditional darkroom print processes

Have you tried Quad Tone RIP? I think your printer is supported.

The R800/1800 can make very fine B&W prints if you replace the native inks with a dedicated monochrome set like MIS or Piezography. If you want to make B&W using native inks, a printer that supports Advanced Black & White like the 38xx is a much better choice.

Have you tried Quad Tone RIP? I think your printer is supported.

The first tests on MAC are very promising. This is indeed real B/W printing method.

BTW - are you familiar with QTRIP? The major question what I have now is if they support glossy paper or only mat?

Yes it's possible to produce curves for glossy surfaces using QTR. For reference see this article here:

Bronze differential is an issue but I spray my prints to deal with that.
