RB67 seal kits?

I have developed a leak which I have traced down to the film back but I want to just go ahead and do the whole camera.

Does anyone make a full kit for body and back? As well as the rotating back mechanism?

I just got a kit from Jon about a month ago for a Mamiya 330, he sells a great product and quick to ship. And my only connection to Jon is a happy customer, been buying from him for about 8 years.

+1 for Jon Goodman. I did my RB67 with his kits. Works great. Make sure to check the 4 screws on the rotating assembly where the film back attaches. I found those screws had loosened a bit and cause a slight light leak. Snugged those screws up and no more leak.

I ended up using a kit from Aki-Asahi on mine, it wasn't leaking but the foam was pretty dodgy. Another interesting tid-bit about the RB I have a Pro-S with a Pro SD back, when I got it it had a Pro-S back with dodgy foam but didn't leak. The seals on both sides of the rotating assembly were completely missing and it didn't leak light a bit. I later added the Pro-SD back because I found it cheap locally, I used mine for probably 4 months with no foam on the rotating assembly and never got a single light leak. I finally decided to replace it before my luck ran out.

Sketch old foam locations if you have any left.
Recycle a chop stick with craft knife to fit into grooves
Lots of cotton waste and q tips.
Can of Zippo to remove old adhesive
Double sided pressure sensitive tape
Mouse mat
Scissors, ruler, cutting block and craft knife
removing old foam difficult
remove hood and screen to access body foam
takes ages if you have a few backs.

Yikes. I do have a few backs. But two are pro-SD so not required, I guess.
I need double sided tape? Whats Asahi provide then? Only the foam?

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered some standard light seal foam from him. This will come in very handy.

Xmas is talking about using a mousepad as a source of foam and doing it from scratch..

Thank you, yes I was.

Used to be in corporate and have a large supply if mouse mat with suppliers name and telephone #.

But you can get foam with pressure sensitive backing from speciality suppliers eg for auto panel noise reduction.

Sometimes use rubber cement (as in puncture repair).

Dutch people would have that in sbag.

By the time you go out and buy mouse mat pads, adhesive, and double faced tape, you could have just bought a kit and got the job done. Not to mention the time to sit there and cut thin strips, then cut strips of double faced tape to adhere it. Jon Goodman sells the seals for the RB67 in 3 kits. 1 for the mirror damper $6, 1 for the rotating back $6, and 1 for the film back $10. Ask yourself, for $22 would i want to sit there and cut mouse mat and double faced tape, run to the auto parts store for adhesive? Or buy a kit with complete instructions, pre-cut seals and adhesive already applied to the seals where it needs to be? Using mouse mat to "patch" up a small light leak where a light seal was torn may be OK, but i wouldn't want to do a whole camera with the stuff.

Yes but
My home office has a drawer full of mousemat and a reel of double sided. The den had the other bits.
The big sheets for auto/house builder were in a specialist foam supplier a mile away too far to drive.
Jon's kits are a postal delay away which for us UK people can be slooooooooooow.
Sticking tape to mouse mat is seconds.
scissior or scapel of mousemat is same as kit if you have mat of correct thickness?
and all the time (>99%) is removing all the old foam cause I had four backs----- they are pigs.
I was not worried about cost of kits I wanted to use my RB at weekend and it was Thursday am when I looked in gbag and discovered foam was rotten.
Spent all Thur and Friday...

I do believe it came with a diagram showing what went where but I can't remember for sure, I didn't do the mirror foam because it' amazingly still fine.

You have a couple valid points. Your home office has drawers full of mouse mats and double sided tape. Not everyone does. The shipping time from the U.S. can be lengthy and i would have to consider that as well. The OP is in Florida according to his profile. Jon is in Texas. Shipping time isn't an issue here. And the time to actually perform the work. 2 days you state it had taken you. I did 2 bodies, rotating backs an 2 film backs in an afternoon with pre-made kits. It'll take a lot longer to replace the seals if you're cutting them from scratch than using ones already made. I'm not saying that using the materials you had on hand didn't suit your situation. What i am saying is, if you're going to do it and want longevity of the repair, do it right. I've seen mouse pads crumble after a short period of time, i wouldn't want that in a camera. That's my opinion but to each their own. The OP has options to try. I'm sure that what ever material the OP goes with, the camera will be working just fine when its done. Let's go out and shoot film.
