RB67 Pro-S red frame lines

Hello,

Does anyone know anything about the mechanism that operates the red bars being moved up and down when you rotate the back?
Mine isn't working and I can't work out exactly what triggers them to move.

Take off the revolving back.

It's the smaller hole on the right hand side, half way down the right hand side of the rear of the camera, ie: there are four holes around the camera, 2 on either side, the right pair has one in between them, press down into that with something, that pops up the red lines when in landscape mode.

On the revolving back there are four corresponding notches for those four holes.. so you should see the pin that engages the red line hole between two of them on the left (when facing you, on the right when facing back of cam).

Is your revolving back an RB Pro-S? Only the Pro-S or newer model rev backs will activate the red bars.

Rb Pro-S rev back has 2 chromed silver tits, the others have on only one.

Paul, I'm not with the camera at the moment (a sad time indeed) but I'm pretty sure it's a Pro-S revolving back. I'll double check.

Any ideas other than that why the bars aren't being activated?

the chrome bar is missing (Pro revolving back), the chrome bar is broken off. Or the button is missing/broken which seems basically impossible. Or your red bars may be missing

If it is a Pro-S rev back, check to see if the mechanism that activates the red bars is not hung up or the pin broken or bent. The bars are moved as a ramp sends a pin into the body which actually moves the bars via an internal lever. It can be the body that needs some lube to get the bars moving, not the back.

I don't have a a back in my hands to give you accurate details on how to check it. I'll get back to this a bit later tonight.

With teh rev back off... On the right side of the body is a hole. Insert the end of a Q-Tip and tht should more the red bars. Now look at the corresponding place on tehrev back, there should be a pin that mate with teh hole... see if the pin comes out as you turn the back?

Take the focusing screen out and take a look and see if you have red bars in the body at all, if they try to move when you rotate the back or just sit there.

Yep that was the first thing I checked and they are there. There is tension on them too.

OK I poked a shoelace end in the body and the frame lines came up nicely.

On the revolving back, I found the mechanism which looks as though it has something snapped off the end of it. It basically looks like one of those little allen-head grub screws with a hollow end. If that makes sense at all.
The spring below it appears to be in the pushed in position but the little noggin is barely coming above the surface of the back of the RB adapter.
Any ideas? A new revolving back adapter?

EDIT:
I can also fire the shutter in landscape orientation (which shouldn't happen without the multi-exposure interlock) and not in portrait orientation.

You can continue using it as is, as long as you don't mind.

It fires n has no effect on the image?... that is basically what we need most in a camera, the rest is gravy.

Shame to waste a rev back, I know a few bodies that can use one in any condition.

Yeah, I don't really mind but it's a pain because I know I won't remember the orientation of the back.

Nope images are Ok but the revolving back seals are shot. If I get a new one I'm happy to send you this one if you're interested.

To remeber the orientation of the back... put a red dot sticker on the top of the back so you know when you are in portrait mode. Also cocking it on it's side should be enough of a reminder.

What noggin thing is snubbd off? Isn't the pin in the middle on the side the one for the red bars? That's the one that fits in the hole you activated the bars with.. correct? The mechanism works by running it up a ramp inside the halves if you look inside as you turn it. Yes? Does tha pin go in n out freely?

Paul, that pin on the side isn't there! It's basically broken at the base (by the looks of it).

Paul, sorry this pic is off the internet. This looks like a complete adapter.

The one I've got has no pin, or atleast it's sheared off at the surface of the adapter.

I just posted this pic to compare mine to and the pin is definitely not there on my example.

Well that's a shame. I wonder how it got sheared off? Are you sure it';s not hiding inside? At least you can still use it. I'd just live with it, not worth fixing.

Hehe sorry for all the confusion Paul.

Not sure how it did, it's new to me so its history is unknown.

I may be able to attach another pin fashioned from something from the hardware shop or something. I'll see what I can do.
